Tried not to pay out on home insurance

After an amber weather storm, the house flooded due to an overflowing water course. After months of dealing with the underwriters, Swinton told them that the insurance was null and void as the house wasn't occupied and I had failed to inform them.
The house belonged to my father and he had died. I was named on the insurance and contacted Swinton within weeks of my father's death. They changed the insurance to an Executors insurance and changed to contact details to myself at my home address, over 100 miles from my fathers address. It was 3 months after I had notified them that the flood happened.
It took 7 months to resolve, a time when I was grieving, and it was also shown that occupancy did not matter for external flooding source.
Eventually the insurance paid out and Swinton had to pay me £500 compensation. Over a year later they keep harassing me by sending me marketing mail and emails even though they have been asked on multiple occasions to stop as I would never take out insurance with them again.
User's recommendation: Do not trust Swinton. They take your insurance premiums, but they try to find ways not to pay out if you make a claim.

Your system is not allowing me to register an account. Could you please answer my query re Insurance4Hire:- Hi I have just ordered and paid for a hire car with Enterprise from Darwin Airport, Australia.
I have not yet purchased any extras, but wish to use Insurance4Hire policy – I have done this before but not for past 8 years. I am looking at an annual policy, but am unsure whether to purchase a ‘worldwide’ or ‘australian’ version. I am confused that CDW and SLI excess insurance appears to be excluded from your policies, but thought that was the main benefit of purchasing your polices. Do I still need to purchase excess insurance from Enterprise?
Thanks for any advice, so that I can purchase the most appropriate policy from yourselves. Stu Darby
Think twice before getting home emergency cover
While the actual staff are great, patient, professional, the policy you take out with Swinton, as I have found, is worthless. My radiator has a leak, as I had taken out the Home Emergency policy, I thought I would be covered, but any leaks to the radiators are classed as wear and tear, so excluded. All Swinton can offer is to turn the radiators off, so my house and children (5 month old and two year old) get to enjoy January temperatures at their chilliest.
You are left thinking if this common eventuality isn't covered, what is covered as a fixable home emergency.
